A real phone number
for ChatGPT.

Get a real mobile number for ChatGPT in any of 181 countries. Receive the ChatGPT verification code by SMS or call, use the number for a ChatGPT or OpenAI developer account that isn't tied to your personal SIM, or a separate account for work projects, and keep it for as long as you want.

Every number includes unlimited incoming SMS, 500 outgoing SMS and 1,000 outgoing minutes a month, and unlimited incoming calls — from $1.80 a month on the yearly plan, with a 7-day replacement guarantee — if the number doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram or Google, we replace it free or refund 100%; plus a no-questions-asked refund if you haven't used it for any call or SMS.

01

How ChatGPT verification works

OpenAI doesn't generally require a phone number to use ChatGPT, but it can ask for one for phone-only sign-up in some countries, for Codex in the ChatGPT desktop app, and for your first developer key. Codes go to a mobile number by SMS, or by WhatsApp in selected countries — never by call or email.

Because SMSCreation numbers are real mobile numbers, ChatGPT treats them like any other phone: the code is delivered to your number and shows up in your dashboard inbox straight away.

02

Why it works with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram & Google

Apps check more than the digits: they look up the line type, the country format and whether the number can actually receive their code. Every SMSCreation number is a real mobile number in its country's official format — not a VoIP line — so it passes those checks the same way a SIM in your pocket does.

And we stand behind it with a 7-day replacement guarantee: if your number doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram, Google or any app you need, we replace it free with a new number in the same country — or refund 100% if you prefer.

  • Non-VoIP, real mobile line type — line-type checks see an ordinary SIM number, not a VoIP line
  • Official country format with the right country code, prefix and digit count
  • Unlimited incoming SMS and calls — codes arrive by text or through the “call me” option
  • Private to you — never listed on public SMS sites, so it isn't flagged or rate-limited
  • Yours for as long as you want — re-verification and account recovery keep working

ChatGPT phone verification details

OpenAI's help centre says phone verification is not generally required to create an account or use ChatGPT. You'll meet it in three places: phone-only sign-up (rolled out mostly to new users in the United States, the Netherlands, France, Spain, the United Kingdom, Poland, Germany, Japan, India, Pakistan, Algeria, Uzbekistan and Ukraine), Codex in the ChatGPT desktop app, and the first developer key you create on platform.openai.com. Codes are sent by SMS, or by WhatsApp in selected countries. OpenAI states they cannot be sent by email or phone call.

Two rules make the choice of number matter. First, OpenAI doesn't let you change or update the phone number on your account, for ChatGPT or the developer platform, so the number you verify with is effectively permanent. Second, a number can only ever be used for phone verification up to three times, and once it has been used for verification it can't be used to create another new account. OpenAI does not accept landlines, VoIP numbers, Google Voice or premium numbers. A real mobile number you keep renewing avoids both traps.

Code

Reuse limit
A number can be used for phone verification at most 3 times
Changing the number
Not supported: OpenAI can't change the phone number on an account
Security setting to turn on
Multi-factor authentication under Settings → Security and login (authenticator app, push, 6-digit text code, or passkey)

Common ChatGPT verification problems and fixes

  • “Too many signups with this number” → the number has already been used with OpenAI, possibly by a previous owner of a recycled number. OpenAI says there's currently no workaround; use a different mobile number you control.
  • The number is rejected as unsupported → landlines, VoIP, Google Voice and premium numbers aren't accepted. Use a real mobile number from a supported country.
  • The code never arrives → check the country in the dropdown (it defaults to the United States) and the number format, then request it again. Our guide “Verification code not received” covers the rest of the checklist.
  • You expected a call or an email → OpenAI only sends codes by SMS or, where available, WhatsApp. Choose SMS.
  • “Unsupported country” at sign-up → that error is about where you're accessing from, not your number. OpenAI publishes the list of countries and territories it supports.
  • You deleted an account and want to reuse the number → if the account wasn't disabled for a policy violation, OpenAI removes the number after 30 days and you can sign up with it again.

Living with a phone-only ChatGPT account

If you joined ChatGPT with only a phone number, password resets come by SMS to that number. There's a catch: OpenAI says a phone-only reset only works from a device you've already used at least once to log in to ChatGPT. A phone-only account also can't turn on multi-factor authentication straight away, and upgrading to Plus, Pro or Teams still requires a verified email.

Linking an email fixes all of that. In ChatGPT on the web go to Settings → Account → Email → Add. After that you can enable MFA and switch to Google, Apple or Microsoft login on the same account. Because OpenAI never lets you change the verified phone number, adding the email early is the safety net if the number ever becomes hard to reach.

06

OpenAI's own phone-reuse scenarios

  • Deleted a phone-only account? If it wasn't disabled for a policy violation, OpenAI removes the number after 30 days, and you can sign up with it again.
  • Number used for phone verification on even one account? OpenAI says it's then locked from creating any further new accounts.
  • Accounts that never completed phone verification don't count against the number.
  • “Too many signups with this number” on a number you barely used can mean a previous owner used it, and OpenAI says there's currently no workaround beyond contacting support.

Tips for ChatGPT

  • Use a number you'll keep: OpenAI does not let you change the phone number on your account later.
  • A number can be used for OpenAI phone verification at most 3 times, so give each account its own number.

Questions

Does an SMSCreation number work with ChatGPT?

In most cases, yes: our numbers are real mobile numbers, so ChatGPT can send its code to them by SMS — and by call where ChatGPT offers it. ChatGPT's own sign-up rules still apply, so check the verification details on this page before you buy.

Which country should I choose for ChatGPT?

Any country works. Pick the country where you want your contacts to see a local number, or where the service you're joining expects one.

Will the number work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram and Google?

Yes — guaranteed. It's a real mobile number with unlimited incoming SMS and calls, so verification codes arrive by SMS or voice call. If it doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram, Google or any app you need, we replace it free within 7 days — or refund 100%.

Can I keep using the same number for ChatGPT?

Yes. The number is yours for as long as you keep it renewed, so you can receive codes again for new devices or account recovery.

What if I don't need the number after all?

You're covered by our 7-day replacement guarantee — if the number doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram or Google, we replace it free or refund 100%; plus a no-questions-asked refund if you haven't used it for any call or SMS — request a refund within 7 days of activation.

How much does it cost?

From $1.80 a month on the yearly plan (billed yearly at $21.60/year). Every plan includes unlimited incoming SMS and calls, 500 outgoing SMS and 1,000 minutes.

Do I need a phone number to use ChatGPT?

Usually not. OpenAI says phone verification isn't generally required to create an account or use ChatGPT. You'll be asked for one if you sign up with a phone number instead of email, when accessing Codex in the ChatGPT desktop app, or when creating your first developer key on platform.openai.com.

Can I change the phone number on my ChatGPT account later?

No. OpenAI's help centre says it doesn't offer an option to change or update the phone number on an account, for ChatGPT or the developer platform. Pick a number you plan to keep, and keep it renewed so you can still receive codes.

How many accounts can one number verify?

OpenAI says a number can only ever be used for phone verification up to three times. Once a number has been used for verification, it can't be used to create another new account, even if the earlier accounts were created differently.

Can I reset a phone-only ChatGPT password from a new laptop?

Not reliably. OpenAI says SMS resets for phone-only accounts require a device you've already used at least once to log in to ChatGPT.

Can I upgrade to ChatGPT Plus with only a phone number?

No. OpenAI requires a verified email to upgrade to Plus, Pro or Teams. Add one under Settings → Account → Email → Add.
