How to get a Spanish phone number from abroad

A Spanish móvil opens a lot of doors. Housing portals, employers, delivery services, online shops, appointment systems and many Spanish apps ask for a number starting with 6 or 7, and send their verification codes to it by SMS.

If you're planning a move to Spain, spending the winter there, buying property or working with Spanish clients, you usually need that number before you arrive. This guide explains how Spanish numbers are structured, what Spanish law says about prepaid SIMs, how the options compare from abroad, and when an online Spanish mobile number is the practical choice.

01

How Spanish mobile numbers work

Spain uses the country code +34 and, unlike most of Europe, has no trunk prefix. There is no leading 0 to add at home or drop abroad: the same nine digits are dialed everywhere, and from outside Spain you simply put +34 in front.

Every Spanish number has nine digits. Mobile numbers start with 6, or with 7 (the 71 to 74 ranges were opened for mobiles as 6 numbers ran short). Landlines start with 8 or 9, such as 91 for Madrid and 93 for Barcelona. A typical mobile looks like 612 34 56 78 at home and +34 612 34 56 78 in international format.

Spanish prepaid SIMs and ID registration

Spain requires prepaid SIM buyers to be identified. Under Law 25/2007 on data retention (its single additional provision), operators must keep a register of prepaid card buyers with their name, surname and nationality, and the number and type of the identity document shown. Foreign visitors typically show a passport.

That makes a Spanish prepaid SIM straightforward once you are in Spain with your passport, and awkward before then. After activation, the SIM must stay in a phone to receive codes, and prepaid lines that go unused or aren't recharged for a long time can be cancelled by the operator, taking the number with them.

03

Your options, compared

Roaming your home SIM
Simple and often cheap for EU SIMs under EU roaming rules, but it isn't a +34 number, so Spanish-only forms reject it.
Spanish prepaid SIM
A genuine +34 mobile number. You register it with an identity document, usually in Spain, and it has to stay in a phone and be recharged.
eSIM data plan
Convenient for data on a trip. Most travel eSIMs have no Spanish number, so they can't receive Spanish SMS codes.
VoIP app number
Quick to get, but often refused by verification systems that screen for internet-based numbers.
Real mobile number online
A real +34 mobile number in the 6 or 7 ranges, managed in a web dashboard. No SIM, no registration visit, and SMS and calls reach you abroad.
04

Why Spanish services ask for a Spanish móvil

Spanish sign-up forms usually default to +34 and check that the number is nine digits long and starts with 6 or 7. Anything else, including a Spanish landline, fails validation. Services that confirm accounts or payments by SMS want a number they can definitely reach.

In daily life, a Spanish number is how people get hold of you. Landlords and agencies call it, couriers text it, and businesses of every size use WhatsApp to talk to customers. With a +34 number in place before your move, you can arrange viewings and appointments without waiting until you land.

How to get a Spanish number with SMSCreation

  1. 01Open the Spain number list. Every number is a real Spanish mobile number shown in +34 format; the first two and last two digits appear as XX and are assigned at activation.
  2. 02Pick a number and a plan. The yearly plan comes to $1.80 a month ($21.60 billed yearly); other terms are priced at checkout.
  3. 03Pay with USDT or USDC on Tron, Polygon, BNB Smart Chain, Base or Solana, or from your wallet balance. You sign up with an email address and show no ID.
  4. 04The activated number appears in your dashboard. Incoming SMS show up in the inbox instantly, and incoming calls arrive there too.
  5. 05Enter it as +34 and the nine digits, with no 0 anywhere. With a Spain country selector, type just the nine digits.
06

Where a Spanish number helps

  • Registering on Spanish housing, job and classifieds platforms that expect a +34 mobile.
  • Booking appointments with offices and services that confirm by SMS or phone call.
  • Receiving courier texts and calls for deliveries inside Spain.
  • Verifying WhatsApp, Telegram, Google and other accounts on a Spanish number.
  • Giving Spanish clients, tenants or property managers a local number to call.
  • Keeping a Spanish number between stays, such as for a holiday home or seasonal work.
  • Staying reachable for Spanish contacts while you travel, without paying roaming charges on your home SIM.
07

When an online number is not enough

Some Spanish services depend on more than a phone number. Opening a bank account or dealing with residency paperwork involves identity documents, and instant-payment services such as Bizum work through a Spanish bank that links your mobile number to your account, so the bank account comes first. An online number can receive their SMS, but it can't substitute for those steps.

If you live in Spain full time and want data too, a Spanish SIM plan is usually the better value. An online +34 number is strongest when you're abroad, splitting the year between countries, preparing a move, or keeping a second Spanish number separate from your personal one.

08

Tips for Spanish number formats

  • Never add a 0. Spain has no trunk prefix, so +34 612 34 56 78 is complete as written.
  • Count nine digits after +34. Spanish numbers are often grouped 612 34 56 78 or 612 345 678; the grouping doesn't matter.
  • If you see 0034 in front of a number, that's the international dialing form: 00 is the exit code used from Spain and many other countries, followed by 34. In forms, always use +34 instead.
  • Mind the two time zones: mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands use CET (UTC+1, UTC+2 in summer), while the Canary Islands are an hour behind (UTC+0, UTC+1 in summer).
  • If a code is slow, wait a minute or two before asking for another, and choose a voice call if offered.
  • Keep the number renewed, since Spanish services often send a fresh code when you log in from a new device.

Why it works with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram & Google

Apps check more than the digits: they look up the line type, the country format and whether the number can actually receive their code. Every SMSCreation number is a real mobile number in its country's official format — not a VoIP line — so it passes those checks the same way a SIM in your pocket does.

And we stand behind it with a 7-day replacement guarantee: if your number doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram, Google or any app you need, we replace it free with a new number in the same country — or refund 100% if you prefer.

  • Non-VoIP, real mobile line type — line-type checks see an ordinary SIM number, not a VoIP line
  • Official country format with the right country code, prefix and digit count
  • Unlimited incoming SMS and calls — codes arrive by text or through the “call me” option
  • Private to you — never listed on public SMS sites, so it isn't flagged or rate-limited
  • Yours for as long as you want — re-verification and account recovery keep working
10

Price, keeping the number and the 7-day guarantee

Spanish numbers cost the same as every other country: from $1.80 a month on the yearly plan ($21.60 billed yearly), with unlimited incoming SMS and calls, 500 outgoing SMS and 1,000 outgoing call minutes a month.

The number stays yours as long as you renew it. If it doesn't work with WhatsApp, Google or another app within 7 days of activation, you get a free replacement Spanish number or a full refund, and if it hasn't been used for any call or SMS, a full refund within 7 days.

Questions

Can I get a Spanish phone number without living in Spain?

Yes. Spanish prepaid SIMs must be registered with an identity document, usually in person, but an online Spanish mobile number from SMSCreation needs only an email address and crypto payment.

Do Spanish phone numbers have a leading 0?

No. Spain has no trunk prefix, so numbers are dialed with the same nine digits at home and after +34 from abroad.

Are Spanish numbers starting with 7 mobile numbers?

Numbers in the 71 to 74 ranges are mobiles; they were added when 6 numbers began to run short. Numbers starting with 8 or 9 are landlines or special services.

Do I need ID to buy a prepaid SIM in Spain?

Yes. Under Law 25/2007, operators must record prepaid buyers' name, nationality and identity document details. Visitors usually register with a passport.

Do the Canary Islands use a different code?

No. The Canary Islands use +34 like the rest of Spain, but they are one hour behind the mainland, which matters when you expect a call.

Can I use a Spanish number for WhatsApp?

Yes. SMSCreation numbers work with WhatsApp and other apps that verify by SMS or call, covered by the 7-day replacement guarantee. The app makes its own final decision.

Can I use an online Spanish number for Bizum?

Bizum is set up through a Spanish bank that links your mobile number to your account, so you need that bank account first. The number alone doesn't give you access.

Will the number work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram and Google?

Yes — guaranteed. It's a real mobile number with unlimited incoming SMS and calls, so verification codes arrive by SMS or voice call. If it doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram, Google or any app you need, we replace it free within 7 days — or refund 100%.
