Non-VoIP number providers compared, by use case

Disclosure first: this page is published by SMSCreation, and SMSCreation is one of the providers listed. We have tried to make that matter as little as possible — every third-party fact below comes from the provider's own website or help centre, linked in the sources, and we say where another provider is the better fit.

There are no ratings, scores or rankings here, and no prices for other providers, because prices change often and a ranking from a competitor is not worth much. Instead, providers are grouped by what you are trying to do, and each entry covers the same criteria.

"Non-VoIP" means a number from a mobile numbering range rather than one issued by an internet calling provider. Apps that check line type before sending a code treat the two very differently, which is why the category exists.

01

How we reviewed providers

Each provider was checked against its official site and help pages on the date shown under sources. Where a provider doesn't publish something, we say so or leave it out rather than guess. The criteria:

  • Line type: whether the provider says its numbers are mobile or non-VoIP, or describes an internet-based service.
  • Keeping the number: minutes, days, or for as long as you pay.
  • Countries: how many, as the provider states it.
  • Payment: which methods the provider lists.
  • KYC: whether identity documents are required, where the provider states it.
  • Refunds and guarantees: what happens if a code doesn't arrive.
  • Price model: per code, per rental period or subscription — without quoting other providers' prices.

Use case 1: a number you keep for accounts

For accounts that will ask for a code again — messaging apps, email, marketplaces — you want a number that stays assigned to you. Three providers publish a way to do that.

SMSCreation (publisher of this page)
Real mobile numbers in 181 countries, kept while renewed with auto-renew from a wallet. Unlimited incoming SMS and calls plus 500 outgoing SMS and 1,000 outgoing minutes a month in a web dashboard. Crypto only (USDT and USDC on five networks). No KYC. 7-day replacement guarantee or 100% refund. Flat subscription, from $1.80 a month on the yearly plan.
TextVerified
US numbers only; says all numbers are non-VoIP with physical SIM cards. Long-term rentals with monthly payments and optional auto-renew, plus 1–14 day rentals. Accepts major credit cards and several cryptocurrencies. KYC not stated in its FAQ. Refunds on verifications that don't arrive; other refunds case by case, crypto payments not refunded.
SMSPool (long-term rentals)
Says it uses non-VoIP numbers and covers over 150 countries. Monthly long-term rentals stay active while extended. Calling and sending SMS are prohibited per its FAQ. Accepts cards via Stripe, crypto via partners and cash via a partner store. Balance refunds within 14 days if unspent. KYC not stated in its FAQ.

Use case 2: a single code you won't need again

For a one-off sign-up, paying per code is the cheaper model. The trade-off is that the number is not yours afterwards, so it is a poor choice for any account you intend to keep.

5SIM
Describes its product as single-use numbers to receive SMS, from around 180 countries. Period of use is 10 to 20 minutes per its FAQ; longer periods are not currently available. Receive-only — no outgoing SMS or calls. Prepaid balance. Automatic refund if no SMS is received.
SMSPool (one-time)
Temporary numbers, usually for one code with a resend option, lasting up to 24 hours with most suppliers per its FAQ. Its FAQ says you only pay for what you use. Offers developer integration and apps for iPhone and Android.
TextVerified (one-time)
A US non-VoIP number to receive one code by SMS or voice call, with a refund if the message or call doesn't arrive.
05

Use case 3: an everyday second calling line

Some people searching for a non-VoIP number actually want a second line for calls and texts with other people. The best-known options here are internet calling services — useful, but not non-VoIP, and both providers are open about limits on verification.

Hushed
Second-line app that works over Wi-Fi or mobile data, with numbers from Canada, the US and the UK. Prepaid, unlimited subscription and pay-as-you-go plans; paid through the App Store or Google Play, or by Bitcoin and cards on its web portal in some locations. Its help centre says numbers are not guaranteed to work with third-party verification and tells users to check whether a service accepts a VoIP number.
Google Voice
A US number for calls and texts from a browser and devices, tied to a Google Account. The no-charge personal plan is only available in the US, per Google's help centre, and setup texts a code to a phone you already have. Google notes that some websites, such as banks, won't send texts to Google Voice numbers, and that texts to short codes aren't supported.

A note on SMS-Activate

SMS-Activate is no longer an option. Its official site says the service completely ceased operation on December 22, that balance withdrawals were available until February 5, and that any service now using the SMS-Activate name should be treated as a scam. If you still have accounts on its numbers, replace the phone number in each account's settings while you can log in.

07

Which group fits you

  • The account matters and will ask for codes again: choose from use case 1, and match the number's country to the account.
  • You only need US numbers and want to pay by card: TextVerified is built around exactly that.
  • You need many one-time codes or automated testing: 5SIM or SMSPool's one-time numbers and developer tools fit better than a subscription.
  • You want a second line for talking and texting with people: Hushed or Google Voice, accepting that some apps may refuse them for verification.
  • You want no card, no ID and one price in every country: SMSCreation.
08

Questions to ask any provider

  • Is the number assigned only to me, and for how long?
  • What happens to the number when I stop paying — and can someone else get it?
  • Can I send SMS and make calls, or only receive?
  • What exactly is refunded or replaced if a code doesn't arrive?
  • Which countries, and is the price the same in each?
  • What personal data or ID does sign-up require?
09

Why it works with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram & Google

Apps check more than the digits: they look up the line type, the country format and whether the number can actually receive their code. Every SMSCreation number is a real mobile number in its country's official format — not a VoIP line — so it passes those checks the same way a SIM in your pocket does.

And we stand behind it with a 7-day replacement guarantee: if your number doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram, Google or any app you need, we replace it free with a new number in the same country — or refund 100% if you prefer.

  • Non-VoIP, real mobile line type — line-type checks see an ordinary SIM number, not a VoIP line
  • Official country format with the right country code, prefix and digit count
  • Unlimited incoming SMS and calls — codes arrive by text or through the “call me” option
  • Private to you — never listed on public SMS sites, so it isn't flagged or rate-limited
  • Yours for as long as you want — re-verification and account recovery keep working

Where SMSCreation fits, and what it costs

SMSCreation is a good match for use case 1 when you want a real mobile number outside or inside the US, two-way SMS and calls, no KYC and crypto payment. It is not the right choice for single throwaway codes, card payment or developer automation. Pricing is from $1.80 a month on the yearly plan ($21.60 billed yearly), the same in every country; the number stays yours while renewed, with a 7-day replacement guarantee or 100% refund, and a no-questions-asked refund within 7 days if the number hasn't been used for any call or SMS.

Questions

What is a non-VoIP number?

A number from a mobile numbering range rather than one issued by an internet calling provider. Line-type lookups classify it as mobile.

Who publishes this page?

SMSCreation, which is also one of the providers listed. Third-party facts come from each provider's own website, linked in the sources.

Why are there no ratings or rankings?

A ranking by a competing provider wouldn't be neutral. Providers are grouped by use case instead, with the same criteria for each.

Which provider is best for keeping one number?

Look at use case 1: SMSCreation, TextVerified long-term rentals or SMSPool long-term rentals. The right one depends on country, payment method and whether you need to send SMS or call.

Are Hushed and Google Voice non-VoIP?

They are internet calling services. Hushed's help centre tells users to check whether a service accepts VoIP numbers, and Google notes some websites won't text Google Voice numbers.

Is SMS-Activate still available?

No. Its official site says it ceased operation on December 22 and warns that services using its name now are scams.

When was this overview last reviewed?

The sources were last checked on the date shown with them on this page. Providers change their products, so check the linked pages before you buy.

Will the number work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram and Google?

Yes — guaranteed. It's a real mobile number with unlimited incoming SMS and calls, so verification codes arrive by SMS or voice call. If it doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram, Google or any app you need, we replace it free within 7 days — or refund 100%.
