How Instagram verification works

Instagram confirms a phone number with a 6-digit code by SMS, and uses the same number for login alerts and account recovery.

Because SMSCreation numbers are real mobile numbers, Instagram treats them like any other phone: the code is delivered to your number and shows up in your dashboard inbox straight away.

02

Why it works with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram & Google

Apps check more than the digits: they look up the line type, the country format and whether the number can actually receive their code. Every SMSCreation number is a real mobile number in its country's official format — not a VoIP line — so it passes those checks the same way a SIM in your pocket does.

And we stand behind it with a 7-day replacement guarantee: if your number doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram, Google or any app you need, we replace it free with a new number in the same country — or refund 100% if you prefer.

  • Non-VoIP, real mobile line type — line-type checks see an ordinary SIM number, not a VoIP line
  • Official country format with the right country code, prefix and digit count
  • Unlimited incoming SMS and calls — codes arrive by text or through the “call me” option
  • Private to you — never listed on public SMS sites, so it isn't flagged or rate-limited
  • Yours for as long as you want — re-verification and account recovery keep working

Instagram verification details

Instagram uses your phone number for login, password resets and security alerts. If you choose text message two-factor authentication, Instagram sends a 6-digit security code by SMS each time someone logs in from a device it doesn't recognize. Instagram says you need a confirmed phone number to use SMS two-factor authentication, and the number you enter while turning it on becomes the account's confirmed number. With an SMSCreation number, those codes arrive in your dashboard inbox, not on your personal SIM.

Instagram now manages this in Accounts Center (some accounts see Meta Account settings instead). Under Password and security > Two-factor authentication you can add or change the SMS number and get backup codes. Instagram's recovery article is clear: if you lose access to both the email and the phone number on the account, and it isn't linked to Facebook, Instagram can't give you access. Keep the number renewed and save your backup codes.

Common Instagram problems and fixes

  • The code doesn't arrive while you log in: if two-factor authentication is on, you can use one of your saved backup codes instead. Instagram says this is what backup codes are for when a code can't be delivered. Our guide "Verification code not received" covers the number side.
  • You lost the number or email on the account: while you can still log in, add a number you control. Instagram says that without access to the original email or number, and without a linked Facebook account, it can't restore the account.
  • Instagram keeps asking you to confirm your phone number: this happens when a number was added but never confirmed, or when time has passed since you last updated it. Enter the SMS code once to finish.
  • You're asked to upload an ID or a video selfie: this is a separate identity check that a phone number can't pass for you. Only you can complete it.

Text, WhatsApp or an app: how Instagram's three 2FA methods connect

Instagram offers three security methods for two-factor authentication. Meta recommends an authentication app such as Duo Mobile or Google Authenticator, and it can only be turned on in the Instagram app for Android or iPhone. Text message sends the login code to your mobile number. WhatsApp is the third, but it depends on the second: you turn on the text-message method first, then add WhatsApp.

For SMS you can use a number already on the account or add a new one during setup. The path in Accounts Center is More → Settings → See more in Accounts Center → Password and security → Two-factor authentication → choose the account. Turning a method off follows the same path. If you run several Instagram accounts and any of them uses two-factor, you enter the code when you log in to any of those accounts.

06

When Instagram stops asking: trusted devices

  • After logging in with a code, you can tap Trust this device; Instagram then won't ask for a security code on that device next time.
  • Instagram warns against trusting a public or shared device that strangers can use.
  • With two-factor on, you can review login requests and remove trusted devices from Accounts Center.
  • If you lose both your phone and email access, a saved backup code still gets you in.

Questions

Does an SMSCreation number work with Instagram?

Yes. Our numbers are real mobile numbers, so Instagram can send its verification code to them by SMS — and by call where Instagram offers it, since incoming calls are unlimited.

Which country should I choose for Instagram?

Any country works. Pick the country where you want your contacts to see a local number, or where the service you're joining expects one.

Will the number work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram and Google?

Yes — guaranteed. It's a real mobile number with unlimited incoming SMS and calls, so verification codes arrive by SMS or voice call. If it doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram, Google or any app you need, we replace it free within 7 days — or refund 100%.

Can I keep using the same number for Instagram?

Yes. The number is yours for as long as you keep it renewed, so you can receive codes again for new devices or account recovery.

What if I don't need the number after all?

You're covered by our 7-day replacement guarantee — if the number doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram or Google, we replace it free or refund 100%; plus a no-questions-asked refund if you haven't used it for any call or SMS — request a refund within 7 days of activation.

How much does it cost?

From $1.80 a month on the yearly plan (billed yearly at $21.60/year). Every plan includes unlimited incoming SMS and calls, 500 outgoing SMS and 1,000 minutes.

Is my Instagram phone number public?

No. Instagram says mobile numbers and email addresses on your account are always private. You can remove a confirmed number at any time, as long as at least one confirmed number or email stays on the account.

Should I use SMS or an authentication app for Instagram two-factor?

Either works. Many people use an authentication app as the main method and keep a confirmed SMS number for recovery. Whichever you choose, save the backup codes from Accounts Center while you're logged in. You can't view them once you're locked out.

Can I get Instagram login codes on WhatsApp instead of SMS?

Yes, but only after the text-message method is on. Instagram requires SMS two-factor first, then lets you add WhatsApp as a second way to receive codes.

Why didn't Instagram ask for a code when I logged in?

You probably marked that device with Trust this device. Instagram skips the security code on trusted devices; you can remove them in Accounts Center under two-factor authentication.
