A UAE mobile number for ChatGPT, ready for SMS or WhatsApp codes
The United Arab Emirates is on OpenAI's list of countries with WhatsApp phone verification, which fits a market where WhatsApp is how estate agents, clinics and small businesses already talk to customers. For a +971 number, OpenAI's one-time code can therefore come as an SMS or as a WhatsApp message.
The UAE is not among the countries where OpenAI offers phone-only ChatGPT sign-up, so the account itself begins with an email or a Google, Apple or Microsoft login. The number joins later, at specific checkpoints, and from then on it's fixed to the account.
Below: when OpenAI asks UAE users for a number, how to handle the WhatsApp route, the 05 formatting rule, and what an SMSCreation UAE number includes.
Why a UAE number for OpenAI
Almost every service in the Emirates, from delivery and ride-hailing to bank and exchange-house apps, wants a local mobile, and many residents prefer their work tools on the same kind of line. For people who divide time between Dubai or Abu Dhabi and elsewhere, a UAE number that isn't bound to a physical SIM stays reachable wherever they are.
OpenAI's rules make stability the priority. The number on an account can't be changed later, so a +971 line you renew is better than a visitor SIM that expires when you fly home.
Where the UAE number comes in
OpenAI says phone verification isn't generally required to use ChatGPT. For a UAE user, expect it in these places.
- Codex in the ChatGPT desktop app, which can ask for phone verification that an email or authenticator app can't replace.
- Your first developer key on platform.openai.com; later keys skip the step.
- Text-message MFA, if you choose it, where the 6-digit code can come by SMS or WhatsApp.
Pick your United Arab Emirates number
These United Arab Emirates numbers are listed right now (35 in total). Choose one on the country page; the hidden digits are assigned when your order is approved and the number is activated.
SMS or WhatsApp: be ready for both
Because the UAE is on OpenAI's WhatsApp list (with Egypt, Indonesia, Israel, India, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Ukraine and Vietnam), the verification screen may say your code is going to WhatsApp once you pick the country. In that case the code arrives inside WhatsApp on that number, not as a text.
The simple preparation is to register WhatsApp on your UAE number before you start. WhatsApp's own registration code comes by SMS or call to the number, and both land in your SMSCreation dashboard. Text messages and verification codes work normally in the UAE; the local restrictions you may have heard about concern voice and video calls in some messaging apps, and OpenAI never uses calls anyway.
Writing a +971 number correctly
UAE mobiles start 05 at home, with prefixes 050, 052, 054, 055, 056 and 058, followed by seven digits. In international form the 0 goes, leaving nine digits after +971. Typing +971 05… is the classic error, and OpenAI's dropdown starts on the United States, so change the country first.
- Dropdown
- United Arab Emirates (+971)
- Home format
- 050 123 4567
- Type on OpenAI
- 50 123 4567 (9 digits)
- Wrong
- +971 050 123 4567
- Code channels
- SMS or WhatsApp, as the screen indicates
Step by step with a UAE number
- 01Order a UAE number and copy its full digits from your SMSCreation dashboard.
- 02Set up WhatsApp on that number, so a WhatsApp code from OpenAI can reach you.
- 03At OpenAI's phone step, select United Arab Emirates and type the nine digits starting with 5.
- 04Read the screen: open WhatsApp if it says the code went there, or your SMS inbox if not.
- 05Enter the code, then turn on MFA under Settings → Security and login.
- 06Keep auto-renew on so both channels stay available.
OpenAI's rules that still apply
- The phone number on an OpenAI account can't be changed, for ChatGPT or the developer platform.
- A number can be used for verification up to three times in total, and after its first use it can't create another new account.
- “Too many signups with this number” means OpenAI already has the number on record, possibly from a previous holder; OpenAI says there's no workaround.
- OpenAI rejects landlines, so a Dubai 04 or Abu Dhabi 02 number won't work, and it refuses VoIP, Google Voice and premium numbers.
- “Unsupported country” is about where you're accessing from, not the +971 number.
Why it works with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram & Google
Apps check more than the digits: they look up the line type, the country format and whether the number can actually receive their code. Every SMSCreation number is a real mobile number in its country's official format — not a VoIP line — so it passes those checks the same way a SIM in your pocket does.
And we stand behind it with a 7-day replacement guarantee: if your number doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram, Google or any app you need, we replace it free with a new number in the same country — or refund 100% if you prefer.
- Non-VoIP, real mobile line type — line-type checks see an ordinary SIM number, not a VoIP line
- Official country format with the right country code, prefix and digit count
- Unlimited incoming SMS and calls — codes arrive by text or through the “call me” option
- Private to you — never listed on public SMS sites, so it isn't flagged or rate-limited
- Yours for as long as you want — re-verification and account recovery keep working
Price and keeping your UAE number
A UAE number is from $1.80 a month on the yearly plan ($21.60 billed yearly), with unlimited incoming SMS and calls, 500 outgoing SMS and 1,000 outgoing minutes a month. It remains yours while it renews, whichever channel OpenAI uses.
If the number doesn't work for OpenAI's verification, the 7-day replacement guarantee gives you a free replacement UAE number within 7 days of activation, or a 100% refund. A number you haven't used for any call or SMS can be refunded within 7 days, no questions asked.

Questions
Why did OpenAI send my UAE code to WhatsApp?
The UAE is one of the countries where OpenAI supports WhatsApp phone verification. When it's available, the screen may route the one-time code there. Open WhatsApp on the same +971 number to read it.
Can I sign up for ChatGPT with only a UAE number?
Not currently. Phone-only sign-up is available mostly in a list of countries that doesn't include the UAE, and OpenAI says no other regions are planned. Use an email or a Google, Apple or Microsoft login, and add the number when asked.
Do I type the 0 of 050 on OpenAI's form?
No. With United Arab Emirates selected, type the nine digits starting with 5, like 50 123 4567. The 0 is only for dialling inside the country.
Does the UAE restriction on app calls affect ChatGPT codes?
No. Restrictions in the UAE have concerned voice and video calls in some messaging apps. OpenAI sends codes as text, by SMS or WhatsApp message, and never by call.
Can I use a Dubai landline for ChatGPT?
No. OpenAI supports mobile numbers only, so landlines such as 04 numbers in Dubai are refused. UAE mobile numbers start with 05.
Will the number work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram and Google?
Yes — guaranteed. It's a real mobile number with unlimited incoming SMS and calls, so verification codes arrive by SMS or voice call. If it doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram, Google or any app you need, we replace it free within 7 days — or refund 100%.
