The Colombian mobile format in WhatsApp

Colombian mobiles have ten digits and begin with 3, for example 300, 310 or 320, written as 310 1234567. There is no trunk 0 to remove: after picking Colombia (+57) you type those ten digits as they are. Since the CRC's Resolution 5826 of 2019 took full effect on 1 March 2021, landlines also have ten digits but start with 60 (601 covers Cundinamarca, including Bogotá), so a number starting 60 is not a mobile.

How WhatsApp checks a +57 line

To register, WhatsApp sends a six-digit code to the number by SMS, and when its timer finishes it can phone the number and read the code aloud instead. Its help center lists VoIP, toll-free, premium-rate and universal access numbers as unsupported, and accepts landlines only on the WhatsApp Business app, so a Colombian 3-series mobile is the right fit.

Every later reinstall or new phone repeats that check on the same +57 number. Only accounts that already added and verified an email can get a re-registration code by email, so most users depend on keeping the Colombian number.

Registering WhatsApp on a Colombian number

1. 01Open an SMSCreation account with just an email, go to Colombia and choose a +57 3XX number; the XX digits are shown at activation.

• Nine digits copied from a contact that lost its first 3, leaving WhatsApp one digit short.
• The country set to another +5X code, such as Peru (+51) or Venezuela (+58), with a Colombian number typed in.

A “free Colombia number for WhatsApp” usually means a public SMS page where every visitor reads the same messages. WhatsApp's rules only allow you to register a number you own, and if one does work, anyone who triggers a new code can take over the account.
