Australia number for Apple ID: a real +61 mobile you keep

Working holiday makers, Australians heading overseas and anyone managing an Aussie Apple Account from another continent share one worry: the code Apple sends when they sign in somewhere new. If the trusted number is a prepaid SIM that has expired, the code goes nowhere. An Australian mobile you rent from us and read in a browser keeps that route open from Bondi or from Berlin.

Getting a local prepaid SIM requires identity checks under ACMA rules, which is awkward before you arrive and pointless after you leave. Keep in mind, too, that a +61 number is purely a sign-in tool for Apple. It doesn't switch your App Store to Australia; Apple handles that separately, as explained below.

01

Why Australians and visitors put a +61 number on Apple

Backpackers on a working holiday often open or update an Apple Account with the SIM they bought on arrival, then fly home with a number that will soon be recycled. Australians moving abroad face the reverse problem: their home number lapses while the account still relies on it. Either way, the next new iPhone or browser sign-in asks for a code on a line they no longer hold.

Apple's advice covers this. It wants at least one trusted number, and if you have several, it suggests adding one that isn't associated with your iPhone. A +61 line that never sits inside a handset is exactly that kind of independent backup.

  • Keep an Australian Apple Account reachable after a working holiday ends
  • Replace a home number that will lapse while you live overseas
  • Add an independent trusted number that a lost iPhone can't take with it
02

Writing +61 numbers the way Apple wants

Australians write mobiles as 0412 345 678, usually grouped 4-3-3. Apple's form puts +61 in front once Australia is selected, so the leading 0 must go and nine digits remain, always beginning with 4.

Country code
+61, Australia
Digits after +61
9, starting with 4 for mobiles
Example
+61 412 345 678
What to type
Pick Australia (+61), then 412 345 678
Drop
The leading 0, and never the 0011 exit code
Time zones
UTC+8 in the west, UTC+9:30 in the centre, UTC+10 in the east; daylight saving only in some states

What Apple uses the number for, and the store setting it doesn't touch

For Apple, a phone number has a security job. Once verified, it becomes a trusted phone number, and Apple can deliver the six-digit sign-in code to it by text or phone call whenever a trusted iPhone, iPad or Mac isn't at hand. It also stays on file for account recovery.

Your App Store country is a different switch, found under Media & Purchases → Country/Region on iPhone or Personal Information on account.apple.com. Apple's guide to changing it (last checked 2026-10-01) asks you to sort out several things first. Quoted exactly:

  • “Clear a low Apple Account balance: If your balance is less than the cost of a single item in the App Store or other Apple services, learn how to clear your balance.”
  • “Cancel subscriptions that block a country or region change”
  • “Have a valid payment method ready: You might need to enter a valid payment method for your new country or region. If you don’t want to enter a payment method, wait until you're physically in your new country or region. Then create a new Apple Account.”

Payment methods on Apple's list for Australia

For Australia, Apple's payment-methods page names Apple Account balance (from redeeming Apple Gift Card or adding funds), Apple Pay, most credit and debit cards, and PayPal. Two of its footnotes are relevant: Apple Pay requires two-factor authentication, and with PayPal you might be asked to verify your account with the provider.

None of those is a phone number. A +61 line helps you pass Apple's sign-in checks while you add an Australian card, PayPal or gift card balance; the store change itself depends on that payment step.

06

Adding the Australian number on the web or a Mac

  1. 01Open an SMSCreation account with just an email, choose Australia and pick a number; the hidden XX digits are filled in at activation.
  2. 02Pay in USDT or USDC. When the transfer matches on-chain, the full +61 4… number appears in your dashboard.
  3. 03Sign in at account.apple.com, open Sign-In and Security, then Account Security, and go to the Trusted Phone Number section. On a Mac: Apple menu → System Settings → your name → Sign-In & Security → Two-Factor Authentication → Add Trusted Phone Number.
  4. 04Select Australia (+61) and enter 412 345 678 style: nine digits, no 0 in front.
  5. 05Ask for the code by text or phone call, then read the SMS in the inbox or answer the call in the browser.
  6. 06Enter the six-digit code; Apple lists the +61 number as trusted.
07

Australian number pitfalls in Apple's form

  • Leaving the 0 in: +61 0412 345 678 is ten digits after the code and gets rejected.
  • Typing 0011, Australia's exit code. That's only for dialling out of Australia, never part of your own number.
  • Entering a landline beginning 02, 03, 07 or 08; Australian mobiles start with 04.
  • Mixing up time zones when an alert arrives: Perth, Adelaide and Sydney sit on different clocks, and Queensland skips daylight saving.
08

Free +61 numbers, single codes, or a number you keep

The Australian numbers on free SMS sites are shared by everyone who opens the page. An Apple code there is visible to strangers, and heavy reuse means many services have already seen those lines. If you truly need only one code, ever, a one-time code service costs less.

Apple accounts rarely need just one. Expect a fresh code on every new device or browser, after a full sign-out and after a device erase. With no working trusted number, you're left with account recovery, which Apple says can take a few days or longer. A number you renew costs less than that disruption.

09

No Apple code on your +61 number?

  • Choose “Didn't Get a Code?” or “Can't get to your devices?” on the code screen and send it to the trusted Australian number again, switching to a call if the text is late.
  • Check that the trusted number Apple displays is the +61 line, not the old prepaid SIM from your trip.
  • An iPhone may verify a trusted number silently in the background, in which case no code is needed.
  • Codes arrive on Australian numbers in most cases, but Apple applies its own rules about when to send them. If nothing comes through, raise a ticket and work through our missing-code guide.

Why it works with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram & Google

Apps check more than the digits: they look up the line type, the country format and whether the number can actually receive their code. Every SMSCreation number is a real mobile number in its country's official format — not a VoIP line — so it passes those checks the same way a SIM in your pocket does.

And we stand behind it with a 7-day replacement guarantee: if your number doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram, Google or any app you need, we replace it free with a new number in the same country — or refund 100% if you prefer.

  • Non-VoIP, real mobile line type — line-type checks see an ordinary SIM number, not a VoIP line
  • Official country format with the right country code, prefix and digit count
  • Unlimited incoming SMS and calls — codes arrive by text or through the “call me” option
  • Private to you — never listed on public SMS sites, so it isn't flagged or rate-limited
  • Yours for as long as you want — re-verification and account recovery keep working

Price, keeping the number and the 7-day guarantee

An Australian number is from $1.80 a month on the yearly plan, billed as $21.60 a year. You get unlimited incoming SMS and calls, 500 outgoing texts and 1,000 outgoing minutes monthly, and the +61 number remains yours while it renews, long after any visa ends.

Because Apple has the final word, we can't promise acceptance. If the number doesn't work with Apple within 7 days of activation, the 7-day replacement guarantee gives you another Australian number free or a 100% refund; an unused number is refundable in that week without questions.

Questions

Can an Australian number change my App Store region?

No. The +61 number is only a trusted number for Apple's codes. To switch stores, go to Media & Purchases → Country/Region and meet Apple's conditions: clear your balance, cancel blocking subscriptions and have a valid Australian payment method, or create a new account once you're physically there.

Is a free Australian number OK for Apple ID?

Not for a trusted number. Free public lines are shared and reused, anyone can read the code, and the number may be gone when Apple asks again.

Can I keep the +61 number after my working holiday ends?

Yes. It stays yours as long as it renews, and codes reach it in your web dashboard from any country.

Do I type 0011 or the 0 when Apple asks for my number?

Neither. Choose Australia (+61) and type the nine digits starting with 4, for example 412 345 678.

Which payment works in the Australian App Store?

Apple lists Apple Account balance from Apple Gift Card or added funds, Apple Pay, most credit and debit cards, and PayPal. The phone number has no role in payment.

Will Apple's code reach the +61 number while I'm overseas?

Yes. Apple sends the text or call to the number itself, and our dashboard shows it wherever you sign in from.

Will the number work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram and Google?

Yes — guaranteed. It's a real mobile number with unlimited incoming SMS and calls, so verification codes arrive by SMS or voice call. If it doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram, Google or any app you need, we replace it free within 7 days — or refund 100%.
