Shopee verifies your phone number with a code sent by SMS, and buyers need a verified number to make a purchase. Shopee runs separate sites for each country.

Shopee verification details

Shopee runs separate country sites, each with its own help centre, including Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines and Indonesia. Shopee says buyers need a verified phone number to make a purchase. If you signed up with Google, Facebook or Apple, you still need to add one. In the app, go to Me → ⚙ → Account & Security → Set Now → ADD. Enter the number and type the verification code sent by SMS. The OTP also protects password resets and changes to bank account details. In the Philippines, Shopee says that if the SMS doesn't arrive, you can check for the OTP in Viber or WhatsApp.

Changing the number has several limits. It may fail if the number is already on another Shopee account. It can also fail if the account is suspended or the code was entered wrong several times, in which case you wait 24 hours. In Singapore, a number change takes effect only after 12 hours, a rule Shopee attributes to the Monetary Authority of Singapore. Shopee also mentions recycled numbers: a new number that belonged to someone else may be blocked. For those cases Shopee has a change-of-number request form. You can resend a code up to 4 times.

Common Shopee problems and fixes

• The OTP doesn't arrive → weak signal or carrier traffic → toggle airplane mode, restart the phone and resend (up to 4 times). In the Philippines, also check Viber or WhatsApp. Our guide “Verification code not received” has more.
• You can't change your number because it's recycled → the number is still linked to its previous owner's account → use Shopee's change-of-number request form.
• “Existing Shopee account” → the number is already on another account, possibly one you made with Google, Apple or Facebook → merge into one account or use a number never used on Shopee.
• Verification failed after wrong codes → wait 24 hours before trying again.
• Singapore: the new number isn't active yet → changes take effect only after 12 hours; contact customer support if it still fails after that.

Verifying the number on Shopee's website, not just the app

On the Shopee website the route differs from the app: select your username → My Account → Add beside Phone Number → enter your password → enter the number → Send Verification Code → enter the code → CONFIRM. The password step comes before the SMS, so have both ready. Shopee describes phone verification as proof that the account is valid, active and belongs to a real user.

The duplicate-account block often comes from mixing sign-up methods. Shopee's own example is one account opened with a mobile number and a second with a Google account. Its advice is to delete one duplicate and keep everything on a single account, then attach the number there.

If the Shopee OTP still won't come: what support asks for

• Shopee username.
• Date and time the problem happened.
• Phone model and Android or iOS version.
• Service provider.
• The page where you requested the code, for example password reset or updating bank account details.
• Also check that the number on your profile is the one you expect; a code goes to the number linked to the account, not to the one you're holding.
