01

How Perplexity verification works

Perplexity accounts are created with Google, Apple or email, but Perplexity may ask some users to verify a phone number before they continue using the app. It sends a code by SMS, and the check is needed only once per account.

Because SMSCreation numbers are real mobile numbers, Perplexity treats them like any other phone: the code is delivered to your number and shows up in your dashboard inbox straight away.

02

Why it works with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram & Google

Apps check more than the digits: they look up the line type, the country format and whether the number can actually receive their code. Every SMSCreation number is a real mobile number in its country's official format — not a VoIP line — so it passes those checks the same way a SIM in your pocket does.

And we stand behind it with a 7-day replacement guarantee: if your number doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram, Google or any app you need, we replace it free with a new number in the same country — or refund 100% if you prefer.

  • Non-VoIP, real mobile line type — line-type checks see an ordinary SIM number, not a VoIP line
  • Official country format with the right country code, prefix and digit count
  • Unlimited incoming SMS and calls — codes arrive by text or through the “call me” option
  • Private to you — never listed on public SMS sites, so it isn't flagged or rate-limited
  • Yours for as long as you want — re-verification and account recovery keep working

Perplexity phone verification details

Perplexity doesn't ask everyone for a phone number. You create an account with Google, Apple or an email address, and email sign-ins use a login link or a one-time passcode sent to your inbox. Perplexity doesn't support passwords. Its help centre says Perplexity may ask some users to verify their phone number before they continue using the Perplexity app, as a security measure. If it asks you, you enter your number, get a code by SMS and type it on the verification page.

Perplexity gives three rules for this check. It's needed only once per account. Each Perplexity account can be linked to only one phone number. And if verification is keeping you out of your account, Support may be able to help restore access. The prompt can appear after sign-up rather than during it, so use a number you'll still control when it shows up. Also note that Perplexity doesn't let you change the email address on an account once it's registered.

Common Perplexity verification problems and fixes

  • A phone prompt appears on an account you already use → Perplexity asks some users to verify as a security step. Enter a number that receives SMS, then the code. It's only required once per account.
  • The SMS code doesn't arrive → check the country code and the number, then request the code again. Our guide "Verification code not received" has the full checklist.
  • Verification is blocking your access → Perplexity says Support may be able to help restore access. Use the Contact support button in the help centre's top navigation bar.
  • The login code you're missing is the email one → that's a different step. Check spam and junk, add team@mail.perplexity.ai to your safe senders list and make sure you typed the right address.
  • You're on a VPN → Perplexity doesn't recommend one, saying it may trigger frequent Cloudflare security checks and can make the app unusable.
05

Why Perplexity asks some users for a phone number mid-session

Perplexity accounts start without a phone at all. You sign in with Google, Apple or an email address, and email sign-ins use a login link or a one-time passcode because Perplexity has no passwords. The phone request comes later and only for some users: Perplexity's help centre describes it as a security measure shown before you can keep using the app.

When it appears, the flow is short. Type the number on the verification page, wait for the SMS, enter the code. Perplexity says the check is needed once per account, and each account can be linked to just one phone number, so a second Perplexity account needs a second number.

  • The email you registered with can't be changed later, so the email and the number together are your permanent identity on Perplexity.
  • Missing an email code rather than an SMS? Add team@mail.perplexity.ai to safe senders and check spam.
  • Perplexity doesn't recommend a VPN; it may trigger frequent Cloudflare checks that make the app unusable.

If the Perplexity phone check blocks your access

Perplexity's help centre says Support may be able to help restore access when verification keeps you out. Reach it through the Contact support button in the help centre's top navigation bar. Because the prompt can appear after sign-up rather than during it, choose a number you'll still hold when Perplexity gets round to asking.

Questions

Does an SMSCreation number work with Perplexity?

In most cases, yes: our numbers are real mobile numbers, so Perplexity can send its code to them by SMS — and by call where Perplexity offers it. Perplexity's own sign-up rules still apply, so check the verification details on this page before you buy.

Which country should I choose for Perplexity?

Any country works. Pick the country where you want your contacts to see a local number, or where the service you're joining expects one.

Will the number work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram and Google?

Yes — guaranteed. It's a real mobile number with unlimited incoming SMS and calls, so verification codes arrive by SMS or voice call. If it doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram, Google or any app you need, we replace it free within 7 days — or refund 100%.

Can I keep using the same number for Perplexity?

Yes. The number is yours for as long as you keep it renewed, so you can receive codes again for new devices or account recovery.

What if I don't need the number after all?

You're covered by our 7-day replacement guarantee — if the number doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram or Google, we replace it free or refund 100%; plus a no-questions-asked refund if you haven't used it for any call or SMS — request a refund within 7 days of activation.

How much does it cost?

From $1.80 a month on the yearly plan (billed yearly at $21.60/year). Every plan includes unlimited incoming SMS and calls, 500 outgoing SMS and 1,000 minutes.

Does Perplexity need a phone number to sign up?

Not normally. You sign up with Google, Apple or email. Perplexity says it may ask some users to verify a phone number by SMS before they continue using the app. When that happens, it's a one-time step for the account.

Can I add more than one phone number to my Perplexity account?

No. Perplexity says each account can be linked to only one phone number, so choose the number you want to keep. If verification ever stops you getting into the account, Support may be able to help.

Can I change the email on my Perplexity account instead?

No. Perplexity says the email address can't be changed once it's registered. If you lose access to it, you contact support to request account deletion.

Does every Perplexity user have to verify a phone number?

No. Perplexity says it may ask some users to verify their number before they continue using the app. If asked, it's required once per account.

Can two Perplexity accounts share one phone number?

No. Perplexity links each account to only one phone number, so use a separate number for each account.
