How Notion verification works
Notion can send two-step verification codes by text message (Text me a code), depending on your region. An account can hold up to two phone numbers.
Because SMSCreation numbers are real mobile numbers, Notion treats them like any other phone: the code is delivered to your number and shows up in your dashboard inbox straight away.
Why it works with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram & Google
Apps check more than the digits: they look up the line type, the country format and whether the number can actually receive their code. Every SMSCreation number is a real mobile number in its country's official format — not a VoIP line — so it passes those checks the same way a SIM in your pocket does.
And we stand behind it with a 7-day replacement guarantee: if your number doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram, Google or any app you need, we replace it free with a new number in the same country — or refund 100% if you prefer.
- Non-VoIP, real mobile line type — line-type checks see an ordinary SIM number, not a VoIP line
- Official country format with the right country code, prefix and digit count
- Unlimited incoming SMS and calls — codes arrive by text or through the “call me” option
- Private to you — never listed on public SMS sites, so it isn't flagged or rate-limited
- Yours for as long as you want — re-verification and account recovery keep working
Notion two-step verification details
Notion uses a phone number only for two-step verification, and 2FA is optional on every plan. To add SMS, go to Settings in your sidebar → your name, and under Account security select Add verification method next to 2-step verification. Choose Text me a code, add a number that can receive text messages and enter the code Notion sends. If it's your first 2FA method, save the backup codes Notion gives you: six single-use codes that you enter via Try another method → Use backup code.
Some limits apply. You need a password on the account, and 2FA isn't available if your organization requires login through an identity provider such as Okta or Google Workspace. Notion says that depending on your region you may only be able to use an authenticator app, so SMS isn't offered everywhere. An account can hold up to four methods, two authenticators and two phone numbers, so a second number makes a sensible backup. Change methods under Account security → Change verification method.
- Code
- By SMS (Text me a code) at sign-in once 2FA is on
- Methods per account
- Up to 4: two authenticators and two phone numbers
- Backup codes
- 6 single-use codes
- Requirements
- A password; not available with identity-provider (SSO) login
- Where to change the number
- Settings → your name → Account security → Change verification method
Common Notion problems and fixes
- Text me a code isn't offered → Notion limits SMS by region → set up an authenticator app instead.
- The 2-step option is missing → your account has no password, or your organization uses identity-provider login → set a password, or turn on MFA with your identity provider.
- Lost the phone → at the prompt click Try another method → Use backup code, then add a new number under Account security.
- Code doesn't arrive → add a second phone number or an authenticator as a backup method. Our guide "Verification code not received" covers the phone side.
Notion signs you in by email first, so the number is a second key
Out of the box, Notion logs you in with temporary login codes sent to your email address. A phone number plays no part in that. It only enters the picture once you choose Set a password under Settings → your name and then add Text me a code as a 2-step method. The password itself has rules: at least 8 characters with at least 4 unique ones, and if it is 8–14 characters long it needs at least one letter and one number. From 15 characters up, that letter-and-number rule drops away.
Because Notion lets a single account hold up to five email addresses as aliases, the phone number is often the one sign-in factor that stays fixed while emails come and go. Pick a number you plan to renew for as long as the workspace matters to you.
Swapping or deleting the phone method in Notion
- Changing methods: Account security → Change verification method, then prove it's you with a method that is still active. With a dead phone and no authenticator, that proof is a backup code.
- Deleting a method: hover over it, click the ••• menu → Delete, and confirm.
- Backup codes are single use. When the last of the six has been spent, generate a fresh set in settings rather than waiting until you're locked out.
- On SAML SSO, Notion points you to the identity provider for 2-step checks, so a Notion SMS method doesn't apply there.
- Still stuck? Notion's help page gives team@makenotion.com as the contact.

Questions
Does an SMSCreation number work with Notion?
In most cases, yes: our numbers are real mobile numbers, so Notion can send its code to them by SMS — and by call where Notion offers it. Notion's own sign-up rules still apply, so check the verification details on this page before you buy.
Which country should I choose for Notion?
Any country works. Pick the country where you want your contacts to see a local number, or where the service you're joining expects one.
Will the number work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram and Google?
Yes — guaranteed. It's a real mobile number with unlimited incoming SMS and calls, so verification codes arrive by SMS or voice call. If it doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram, Google or any app you need, we replace it free within 7 days — or refund 100%.
Can I keep using the same number for Notion?
Yes. The number is yours for as long as you keep it renewed, so you can receive codes again for new devices or account recovery.
What if I don't need the number after all?
You're covered by our 7-day replacement guarantee — if the number doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram or Google, we replace it free or refund 100%; plus a no-questions-asked refund if you haven't used it for any call or SMS — request a refund within 7 days of activation.
How much does it cost?
From $1.80 a month on the yearly plan (billed yearly at $21.60/year). Every plan includes unlimited incoming SMS and calls, 500 outgoing SMS and 1,000 minutes.
Can I use this number for Notion two-step verification?
Yes, where Notion offers text codes in your region. It's a real mobile number, so the code arrives by SMS in your dashboard. Notion allows two phone numbers per account, so this number also works well as a backup alongside your main method.
Do I have to turn on two-step verification in Notion?
No. Notion says it isn't required but highly recommends it. Enterprise workspace owners can require MFA for guests, but not for workspace members.
Why doesn't Notion ask for my phone number when I sign up?
Notion's default login sends temporary codes to your email. A phone number is only used after you set a password and add text-message codes as a 2-step verification method.
What happens when I've used all six Notion backup codes?
Each code works once. When they're used up, Notion lets you generate a new set in your account settings, so do that while you can still sign in.
Can I keep my main phone and this number on the same Notion account?
Yes. Notion allows two phone numbers among its four verification methods, so one can be your personal SIM and the other a number from your dashboard as a fallback.
