How Microsoft & Outlook verification works
Microsoft accounts (Outlook, Teams, Xbox) can use a phone number as security info for verification codes. Microsoft is phasing out SMS codes for personal accounts, so new personal accounts may be offered other methods first; work and school accounts set by an organisation can still use SMS or a call.
Because SMSCreation numbers are real mobile numbers, Microsoft & Outlook treats them like any other phone: the code is delivered to your number and shows up in your dashboard inbox straight away.
Why it works with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram & Google
Apps check more than the digits: they look up the line type, the country format and whether the number can actually receive their code. Every SMSCreation number is a real mobile number in its country's official format — not a VoIP line — so it passes those checks the same way a SIM in your pocket does.
And we stand behind it with a 7-day replacement guarantee: if your number doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram, Google or any app you need, we replace it free with a new number in the same country — or refund 100% if you prefer.
- Non-VoIP, real mobile line type — line-type checks see an ordinary SIM number, not a VoIP line
- Official country format with the right country code, prefix and digit count
- Unlimited incoming SMS and calls — codes arrive by text or through the “call me” option
- Private to you — never listed on public SMS sites, so it isn't flagged or rate-limited
- Yours for as long as you want — re-verification and account recovery keep working
Microsoft account verification details
Microsoft is changing how phone numbers work on personal accounts (Outlook.com, Xbox, OneDrive). It has announced that it will start phasing out SMS as a method of authentication and account recovery, in favor of passkeys and a verified email. When you add a new sign-in method at account.microsoft.com/security → Manage how I sign in, the option to add a phone number may not be offered; you may only see a recovery email, Microsoft Authenticator or a passkey. Where a phone number is already on the account, Microsoft still texts codes only to the primary phone number.
Two rules matter for any number you use. A phone number can be added to only one Microsoft account, and Microsoft says carriers recycle numbers about 30 days after disconnection, so a number may still be linked to someone else's account. And do not replace all your security info at once: Microsoft then puts the account in a 30-day waiting period in which you cannot change your password or payment methods. Work or school accounts are separate: their Security info page at myaccount.microsoft.com still offers phone call and text message methods.

Common Microsoft problems and fixes
- The option to add a phone number is missing → Microsoft is phasing out SMS for personal accounts → add a recovery email and a passkey or Microsoft Authenticator instead.
- “Already been taken” when adding a number → the number is on another Microsoft account, possibly a previous owner's → remove it from the other account if it is yours; otherwise wait about 30 days or use another number (SMSCreation replaces a number within 7 days of activation if it doesn't work).
- Security code not arriving → confirm the number is correct and can receive texts, avoid repeated requests (Microsoft may block them for up to a week), and wait 24 hours before retrying. See our guide “Verification code not received”.
- “Security info change is still pending” → all security info was replaced at once → the account is in a 30-day waiting period; cancel it from the original contact if you made the change yourself.
- VoIP numbers don't receive codes → Microsoft states this in its troubleshooting guide → use a real mobile number.

Questions
Does an SMSCreation number work with Microsoft & Outlook?
In most cases, yes: our numbers are real mobile numbers, so Microsoft & Outlook can send its code to them by SMS — and by call where Microsoft & Outlook offers it. Microsoft & Outlook's own sign-up rules still apply, so check the verification details on this page before you buy.
Which country should I choose for Microsoft & Outlook?
Any country works. Pick the country where you want your contacts to see a local number, or where the service you're joining expects one.
Will the number work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram and Google?
Yes — guaranteed. It's a real mobile number with unlimited incoming SMS and calls, so verification codes arrive by SMS or voice call. If it doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram, Google or any app you need, we replace it free within 7 days — or refund 100%.
Can I keep using the same number for Microsoft & Outlook?
Yes. The number is yours for as long as you keep it renewed, so you can receive codes again for new devices or account recovery.
What if I don't need the number after all?
You're covered by our 7-day replacement guarantee — if the number doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram or Google, we replace it free or refund 100%; plus a no-questions-asked refund if you haven't used it for any call or SMS — request a refund within 7 days of activation.
How much does it cost?
From $1.80 a month on the yearly plan (billed yearly at $21.60/year). Every plan includes unlimited incoming SMS and calls, 500 outgoing SMS and 1,000 minutes.
Can I still use a phone number to secure my Outlook or Xbox account?
It depends on your account. Microsoft is phasing out SMS for personal accounts, so new accounts may only be offered a recovery email, Microsoft Authenticator or a passkey. If your account already has a phone number, Microsoft texts codes to the primary one; set up a passkey and verified email too.
Why can't Microsoft support just send me the code?
Microsoft says its support agents are not allowed to send verification codes or change account details. Use Microsoft's Sign-in helper to find the problem, or add a new sign-in method from account.microsoft.com/security while you can still sign in.
Does this apply to work or school accounts?
No. Work or school accounts are managed on the Security info page at myaccount.microsoft.com, where a phone call or text message can still be set up as a verification method, subject to your organization's settings.
