How Messenger verification works
Messenger runs on a Facebook account, which you confirm by entering the code sent to your mobile number by text message (SMS). Facebook can also text a 6-digit two-factor code when you log in from an unrecognised device.
Because SMSCreation numbers are real mobile numbers, Messenger treats them like any other phone: the code is delivered to your number and shows up in your dashboard inbox straight away.
Why it works with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram & Google
Apps check more than the digits: they look up the line type, the country format and whether the number can actually receive their code. Every SMSCreation number is a real mobile number in its country's official format — not a VoIP line — so it passes those checks the same way a SIM in your pocket does.
And we stand behind it with a 7-day replacement guarantee: if your number doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram, Google or any app you need, we replace it free with a new number in the same country — or refund 100% if you prefer.
- Non-VoIP, real mobile line type — line-type checks see an ordinary SIM number, not a VoIP line
- Official country format with the right country code, prefix and digit count
- Unlimited incoming SMS and calls — codes arrive by text or through the “call me” option
- Private to you — never listed on public SMS sites, so it isn't flagged or rate-limited
- Yours for as long as you want — re-verification and account recovery keep working
Messenger verification details
Messenger no longer has a separate sign-up. Meta's Messenger Help Centre says you need a Facebook account to use Messenger. You can then deactivate Facebook and keep chatting as a Deactivated Except Messenger Account (DEMA), and anyone with an old Messenger-only account has to update it to a DEMA. So phone verification for Messenger is Facebook's. You create the account with an email address or a mobile number and confirm it. For a mobile number, you enter the code you get by text message (SMS) in the Confirm box that appears when you log in.
Meta says you may not be able to use the account until the email or number is confirmed, and an unconfirmed account may be deleted after one year of inactivity. After that, the number protects the account. With SMS two-factor authentication, Facebook texts you a 6-digit code whenever someone logs in from a device or browser it doesn't recognise. For security, the number you use for 2FA can't also be used to reset your password, so keep a second number or an email address on the account too.
- Code
- Sent by text message (SMS), typed into the Confirm box when you log in
- Account needed
- A Facebook account; it can be deactivated and kept for Messenger (DEMA)
- Two-factor code
- Always 6 digits by SMS, for logins from unrecognised devices or browsers
- Security setting to turn on
- Accounts Centre → Password and security → Two-factor authentication → Text message (SMS)
- Where to change the number
- Settings → Accounts Centre → Profiles and personal details → Contact info
Common Messenger verification problems and fixes
- No confirmation SMS → check the number you entered. If it's wrong, click Update contact info, enter the right one and click Add, then Send SMS again. Our guide "Verification code not received" covers the other causes.
- You don't want to use a number at all → Meta lets you confirm the Facebook account with an email address instead. Click Update contact info, add the email, then use the link or code it sends.
- You have an old Messenger-only account → Meta says you need to update it to a Deactivated Except Messenger Account to keep using Messenger.
- SMS 2FA codes stop arriving → Meta says you may have turned off text messages from Facebook. Turn them back on, and add a backup method such as a security key or recovery codes in case the phone is lost.
- You can't reset your password with your 2FA number → that's by design. Add a different mobile number or an email address for password resets.
Keeping Messenger when you step back from Facebook
Since Messenger now runs on a Facebook account, the number you confirm there also secures your chats. Meta's Messenger help lets you deactivate Facebook and keep messaging as a Deactivated Except Messenger Account, or DEMA. Old Messenger-only accounts must be updated to a DEMA. Confirm the number before you deactivate, because Meta may restrict an unconfirmed account and can delete one after a year of inactivity.
A second number is useful here. Meta says the number used for text-message two-factor codes can't also be used to reset your password. So keep an email or a second number on the account for resets.
Verify Messenger with your number in 4 steps
- 01Choose a country and pick a mobile number.
- 02Pay in crypto or from your wallet — from $1.80 a month on the yearly plan.
- 03Enter the number in Messenger with its country code and request the code.
- 04Open your SMSCreation inbox, copy the code and you're verified.
Tips for Messenger
- Confirm the number soon after sign-up: Meta says you may not be able to use the account until it's confirmed.
- Turn on two-factor authentication with Text message (SMS) in Accounts Centre → Password and security.
- Add a second number or an email for password resets, because the 2FA number can't be used to reset your password.

Questions
Does an SMSCreation number work with Messenger?
In most cases, yes: our numbers are real mobile numbers, so Messenger can send its code to them by SMS — and by call where Messenger offers it. Messenger's own sign-up rules still apply, so check the verification details on this page before you buy.
Which country should I choose for Messenger?
Any country works. Pick the country where you want your contacts to see a local number, or where the service you're joining expects one.
Will the number work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram and Google?
Yes — guaranteed. It's a real mobile number with unlimited incoming SMS and calls, so verification codes arrive by SMS or voice call. If it doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram, Google or any app you need, we replace it free within 7 days — or refund 100%.
Can I keep using the same number for Messenger?
Yes. The number is yours for as long as you keep it renewed, so you can receive codes again for new devices or account recovery.
What if I don't need the number after all?
You're covered by our 7-day replacement guarantee — if the number doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram or Google, we replace it free or refund 100%; plus a no-questions-asked refund if you haven't used it for any call or SMS — request a refund within 7 days of activation.
How much does it cost?
From $1.80 a month on the yearly plan (billed yearly at $21.60/year). Every plan includes unlimited incoming SMS and calls, 500 outgoing SMS and 1,000 minutes.
Can I use Messenger without Facebook?
Not without a Facebook account. Meta says you need to create one, but you can then deactivate it and keep using Messenger as a DEMA. You won't be searchable on Facebook, and people can still find you and message you in Messenger.
How does Messenger verify a phone number?
Through the Facebook account behind it. You enter the code sent by text message (SMS) in the Confirm box when you log in. You can also confirm with an email address instead of a number.
Should I use the same number for 2FA and password resets?
You can't. For security, Meta won't let the number you use for two-factor authentication also reset your password, so add a second number or an email address.
