01

How LinkedIn verification works

LinkedIn sends a verification code by SMS when you add a phone number for sign-in or two-step verification.

Because SMSCreation numbers are real mobile numbers, LinkedIn treats them like any other phone: the code is delivered to your number and shows up in your dashboard inbox straight away.

02

Why it works with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram & Google

Apps check more than the digits: they look up the line type, the country format and whether the number can actually receive their code. Every SMSCreation number is a real mobile number in its country's official format — not a VoIP line — so it passes those checks the same way a SIM in your pocket does.

And we stand behind it with a 7-day replacement guarantee: if your number doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram, Google or any app you need, we replace it free with a new number in the same country — or refund 100% if you prefer.

  • Non-VoIP, real mobile line type — line-type checks see an ordinary SIM number, not a VoIP line
  • Official country format with the right country code, prefix and digit count
  • Unlimited incoming SMS and calls — codes arrive by text or through the “call me” option
  • Private to you — never listed on public SMS sites, so it isn't flagged or rate-limited
  • Yours for as long as you want — re-verification and account recovery keep working

LinkedIn phone verification details

LinkedIn uses a mobile number in two places. Under Settings & Privacy → Sign in & security → Phone numbers you can add numbers that help you reset your password; the first mobile number you add is enabled for that automatically, and numbers added there are not shown on your profile. To add one, LinkedIn first sends a code to your primary email, then texts a code to the new number.

The second place is two-factor authentication (Sign in & security → Two-factor authentication → Turn on → Phone Number (SMS)). LinkedIn sends a 6-digit code to confirm it. LinkedIn recommends an authenticator app as the preferred method, and 2FA is mandatory for Recruiter, Campaign Manager and Sales Navigator. Be aware of the fallback: if you lose the phone and every signed-in session, LinkedIn's recovery path asks for a photo of a government-issued ID. A rented number is only as good as your commitment to keep it.

Common LinkedIn problems and fixes

  • The 2FA code doesn't arrive → LinkedIn suggests disabling third-party apps that may interfere (Settings & Privacy → Partners & services) and confirming a phone number is on the account → then request the code again. See our guide “Verification code not received”.
  • Can't remove a phone number → it is being used for two-factor authentication → turn 2FA off (or switch it to an authenticator app) first, then remove the number.
  • No access to the old number → if you are still signed in somewhere, turn off 2FA under Sign in & security; if not, LinkedIn asks for a government ID photo to restore access.
  • Adding a number asks for an email code first → this is expected: LinkedIn verifies your primary email before accepting a new number.

Two jobs, one number: password resets and sign-in codes on LinkedIn

LinkedIn treats a mobile number as an account-recovery tool first. The first mobile you add under Sign in & security → Phone numbers is switched on for password resets automatically, and later numbers can be added alongside it. None of them appear on your public profile, which is the right place for a number you only want receiving codes.

The second job begins when you choose Phone Number (SMS) as your two-step verification method. From then on, LinkedIn confirms it is you with a 6-digit text. Recruiter, Campaign Manager and Sales Navigator users cannot opt out of this second step at all, so for them the number becomes part of daily work.

  • Order of checks when you add a number: a code to your primary email first, then a text to the new number.
  • A number used for two-step verification can't be deleted until you turn the feature off or move it to an authenticator app.
  • Phone numbers you want recruiters to call belong in contact info, which is a separate field.
06

What happens on LinkedIn if the number lapses

This is the scenario to avoid. If two-step verification is on SMS, the number stops working and you're signed out everywhere, LinkedIn's recovery route is an identity check that asks for a photo of a government-issued ID. While any session is still open, you can turn two-step verification off under Sign in & security and swap the number calmly. Renewing the number you verified with keeps you out of the ID route entirely.

If codes stop arriving even though the number is fine, LinkedIn points to third-party apps connected through Settings & Privacy → Partners & services as a possible cause, so check those before you change anything else.

Questions

Does an SMSCreation number work with LinkedIn?

In most cases, yes: our numbers are real mobile numbers, so LinkedIn can send its code to them by SMS — and by call where LinkedIn offers it. LinkedIn's own sign-up rules still apply, so check the verification details on this page before you buy.

Which country should I choose for LinkedIn?

Any country works. Pick the country where you want your contacts to see a local number, or where the service you're joining expects one.

Will the number work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram and Google?

Yes — guaranteed. It's a real mobile number with unlimited incoming SMS and calls, so verification codes arrive by SMS or voice call. If it doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram, Google or any app you need, we replace it free within 7 days — or refund 100%.

Can I keep using the same number for LinkedIn?

Yes. The number is yours for as long as you keep it renewed, so you can receive codes again for new devices or account recovery.

What if I don't need the number after all?

You're covered by our 7-day replacement guarantee — if the number doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram or Google, we replace it free or refund 100%; plus a no-questions-asked refund if you haven't used it for any call or SMS — request a refund within 7 days of activation.

How much does it cost?

From $1.80 a month on the yearly plan (billed yearly at $21.60/year). Every plan includes unlimited incoming SMS and calls, 500 outgoing SMS and 1,000 minutes.

Will recruiters see the number I add for verification?

No. LinkedIn says numbers added under Sign in & security, and the number used for two-factor authentication, are not displayed on your profile. If you want recruiters to call you, add a number to your contact info separately.

Is SMS or an authenticator app better for LinkedIn?

LinkedIn calls the authenticator app the preferred method. SMS still works and is a good backup, but whichever you pick, keep the number active: it also resets your password if you are locked out.

Why did LinkedIn email me a code when I tried to add a phone number?

That's the normal order. LinkedIn confirms your primary email with a code before it sends a text to the new number, so you need access to both.

Is two-step verification optional on LinkedIn?

For most members it is, and LinkedIn prefers an authenticator app over SMS. It's mandatory for Recruiter, Campaign Manager and Sales Navigator users.

Can I have more than one phone number on LinkedIn?

Yes. You can add several numbers under Sign in & security → Phone numbers to help reset your password. The first mobile you add is enabled for resets automatically.
