Hinge verification details

Hinge lets you sign up and log in with a phone number, a Google account or an Apple ID. With a phone number, Hinge sends a PIN by SMS short code, a specific type of text message, and requires an SMS code every time you log in that way. Hinge says it can't validate a mobile number manually, so the code must reach you. You also have to log in the same way you signed up. A different method or a different number can put you in the new-account flow instead of your profile.

The single most important fact: for security, Hinge does not allow members to change the phone number linked to their account. If you lose that number, support can only delete the old account so you can start again, which erases everything. Choose a number you intend to keep and renew it. Common Hinge problems and fixes

• The PIN never arrives → Hinge lists three causes: a mistyped number, a carrier blocking texts or SMS short codes, and prepaid phone plans. Update the app, recheck the number, and see our guide “Verification code not received”.
• Locked out after several tries → Hinge says you must wait at least 24 hours before trying again and it can't lift the lock manually.
• Your number won't fit in the field → leave out the trunk code (the 0 or 1 most countries use) right after the country code.
• You're asked to create a new account → you're probably logging in with a different method or number than you signed up with. Use the same phone number, Google account or Apple ID.
• You lost the number on your account → Hinge can't move the account to a new number. Write to support with the old number and written consent to delete the old account, then sign up again.

Choosing a number for Hinge you'll never need to change

Hinge's rules make the first number you pick a long-term decision. Hinge won't let members change the phone number on an account, and if the number is lost, support can only delete the account so you start over. Every login by phone needs a fresh SMS code, and Hinge can't validate a number by hand. A lapsed number therefore means a lost profile, with your matches and prompts gone.
