How Freelancer.com verification works
Freelancer.com verifies a Security Phone Number with a code sent by SMS or phone call, your choice, set up under Settings → Profile.
Because SMSCreation numbers are real mobile numbers, Freelancer.com treats them like any other phone: the code is delivered to your number and shows up in your dashboard inbox straight away.
Why it works with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram & Google
Apps check more than the digits: they look up the line type, the country format and whether the number can actually receive their code. Every SMSCreation number is a real mobile number in its country's official format — not a VoIP line — so it passes those checks the same way a SIM in your pocket does.
And we stand behind it with a 7-day replacement guarantee: if your number doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram, Google or any app you need, we replace it free with a new number in the same country — or refund 100% if you prefer.
- Non-VoIP, real mobile line type — line-type checks see an ordinary SIM number, not a VoIP line
- Official country format with the right country code, prefix and digit count
- Unlimited incoming SMS and calls — codes arrive by text or through the “call me” option
- Private to you — never listed on public SMS sites, so it isn't flagged or rate-limited
- Yours for as long as you want — re-verification and account recovery keep working
Freelancer.com phone verification details
Freelancer.com lets you add a verified Security Phone Number to present yourself as a trusted member of the community. Click your profile picture → Settings, open the Profile tab and find Security Phone Number → Setup Security Number. Select your country, enter the number and choose whether the code comes by SMS or by phone call. Click Send Verification Code, enter the code and click Verify Code. If nothing arrives within 15 minutes, use Re-send Code.
Freelancer.com is strict about format. Leave out hyphens and spaces, select the correct country so the country code fills in automatically, and follow international order. Drop the leading 0 of a mobile number, because the country code takes its place. Mobile and landline numbers (without extensions) are accepted.
Keep the phone number and payouts apart in your head. Withdrawing earnings by Express, Wire, PayPal, Payoneer or Skrill can require Know Your Customer (KYC) verification: a valid government-issued ID, a photo of you holding that ID and a unique keycode, and proof of address. Review typically takes 2-3 business days. A phone number can't stand in for any of it.
- Code
- By SMS or phone call, your choice
- Resend
- Re-send Code if nothing arrives within 15 minutes
- Number format
- Country selected, then digits only: no hyphens, spaces or leading 0
- Where to set it
- Profile picture → Settings → Profile → Security Phone Number
- Payout checks
- KYC: government ID, keycode photo and proof of address
Common Freelancer.com problems and fixes
- No code arrives → Freelancer.com suggests checking for apps that filter incoming SMS, restarting the phone and testing delivery again → then resend, or switch to the phone-call option. Our guide “Verification code not received” covers more.
- Verification fails straight away → hyphens, spaces, a leading 0 or the wrong country break the format → select the right country and enter only the remaining digits.
- A withdrawal is held for verification → that's KYC, not your phone → submit your ID, keycode photo and proof of address in the Verification Center, and allow 2-3 business days for review.
Changing a Freelancer.com security number later means an ID check
Adding the first Security Phone Number is quick. Replacing it is not. On the Profile tab the button changes to Request to Change, a pop-up explains the steps, and after Change Security Number you pick SMS or a call and enter the new code as before. The change is only applied once you click Verify Identity and complete ID verification.
There is a second block: while a Know Your Customer check for a withdrawal request is pending, Freelancer.com won't let you update the number at all. You have to cancel that KYC verification first. Both rules point the same way. Choose the security number you intend to keep, and keep it renewed, rather than planning to swap it once your earnings start moving.
Freelancer.com's own example of the number format
- Freelancer.com's help page shows a US number written domestically as 01234567898 being entered as +11234567898: the leading 0 goes, the country code takes its place.
- The format it expects is country code, then city code, then the local number, with no hyphens or spaces.
- Landlines are allowed without extensions; on the change-number page Freelancer.com notes the option is only available in select countries.
- If delivery fails, its checklist is: update the phone's software, look for apps filtering SMS, restart so the phone reconnects to the local base station, and test again before resending.

Questions
Does an SMSCreation number work with Freelancer.com?
In most cases, yes: our numbers are real mobile numbers, so Freelancer.com can send its code to them by SMS — and by call where Freelancer.com offers it. Freelancer.com's own sign-up rules still apply, so check the verification details on this page before you buy.
Which country should I choose for Freelancer.com?
Any country works. Pick the country where you want your contacts to see a local number, or where the service you're joining expects one.
Will the number work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram and Google?
Yes — guaranteed. It's a real mobile number with unlimited incoming SMS and calls, so verification codes arrive by SMS or voice call. If it doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram, Google or any app you need, we replace it free within 7 days — or refund 100%.
Can I keep using the same number for Freelancer.com?
Yes. The number is yours for as long as you keep it renewed, so you can receive codes again for new devices or account recovery.
What if I don't need the number after all?
You're covered by our 7-day replacement guarantee — if the number doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram or Google, we replace it free or refund 100%; plus a no-questions-asked refund if you haven't used it for any call or SMS — request a refund within 7 days of activation.
How much does it cost?
From $1.80 a month on the yearly plan (billed yearly at $21.60/year). Every plan includes unlimited incoming SMS and calls, 500 outgoing SMS and 1,000 minutes.
Can I get the Freelancer.com code by phone call?
Yes. When you set up your Security Phone Number you choose SMS or a phone call. Incoming calls to an SMSCreation number are unlimited, so the call option is a useful fallback if a text is slow.
Does a verified phone number let me withdraw my earnings?
Not on its own. Freelancer.com can require KYC verification before withdrawals by Express, Wire, PayPal, Payoneer or Skrill, with a government ID, a keycode photo and proof of address. The phone number is a separate trust and security step.
Can I swap my Freelancer.com security phone number whenever I like?
You can request it from the Profile tab, but the change only takes effect after you complete ID verification, and it's blocked while a KYC check for a withdrawal is pending.
How do I type a number with a leading 0 into Freelancer.com?
Drop the 0 and let the selected country fill in the code. Freelancer.com's example turns 01234567898 into +11234567898.
