Fiverr requires freelancers, and new clients who message others, to verify a phone number with a code sent by SMS or WhatsApp. Verification must start on a computer, and codes expire after 10 minutes.

Fiverr phone verification details

Fiverr links a phone number to your account as a security step. Every freelancer must verify a number before offering services, as part of creating a Gig. New clients who signed up with email are asked to verify when they first try to message another user. Fiverr says the number is used for verification only. Clients never see it, and freelancers' numbers stay hidden unless they complete Personal & Business Information verification, which shows details to EU clients under the EU Digital Services Act.

The rules are strict. Verification has to start on a desktop or laptop, not a phone. Codes come by text, as SMS or WhatsApp depending on your country, and expire after 10 minutes. You get two tries by text and one by phone call, up to five code requests in 24 hours, and only one number can be verified every 24 hours. Each number can belong to only one Fiverr account, even if that account is disabled. Fiverr doesn't support Google Voice or other VoIP services; ours are real mobile numbers.

The phone step is one of three checks for new freelancers, alongside business verification and ID verification with an original government-issued document and a selfie. A phone number can't replace the ID check. After you change your verified number, Fiverr pauses withdrawals for 48 hours.

Common Fiverr problems and fixes

• The Verify button is greyed out → you're on a phone → switch to a laptop or PC, because Fiverr says the process can't be completed on mobile.
• No code arrives → Fiverr says SMS can take up to 10 minutes, and asking for a new code too soon can reset the process or cause a temporary block → wait, then try again after 30–60 minutes. Our guide “Verification code not received” has more checks.
• The number is already in use → it's linked to another Fiverr account, even a disabled one → sign in to that account and close it, or contact Customer Support.
• The number is rejected → Fiverr blocks Google Voice and similar VoIP services and wants no leading zeros, spaces or special characters → select the right country and re-enter the digits cleanly.
• You're locked out after several requests → you've hit the limit of five code requests in 24 hours → wait the full 24 hours before trying again.

When Fiverr asks for the number: Gigs, messages and withdrawals

Fiverr ties phone verification to specific moments. A freelancer meets it while creating a first Gig, since every seller must verify before offering services. A client who signed up with email meets it the first time they try to message another user. And after any change of verified number, Fiverr holds withdrawals for 48 hours, so plan number changes around your withdrawals.
