01

How eBay verification works

eBay sends a security code by SMS to verify a number you add, and can use it for 2 Step Verification at sign-in. Codes are valid for 15 minutes.

Because SMSCreation numbers are real mobile numbers, eBay treats them like any other phone: the code is delivered to your number and shows up in your dashboard inbox straight away.

02

Why it works with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram & Google

Apps check more than the digits: they look up the line type, the country format and whether the number can actually receive their code. Every SMSCreation number is a real mobile number in its country's official format — not a VoIP line — so it passes those checks the same way a SIM in your pocket does.

And we stand behind it with a 7-day replacement guarantee: if your number doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram, Google or any app you need, we replace it free with a new number in the same country — or refund 100% if you prefer.

  • Non-VoIP, real mobile line type — line-type checks see an ordinary SIM number, not a VoIP line
  • Official country format with the right country code, prefix and digit count
  • Unlimited incoming SMS and calls — codes arrive by text or through the “call me” option
  • Private to you — never listed on public SMS sites, so it isn't flagged or rate-limited
  • Yours for as long as you want — re-verification and account recovery keep working

eBay phone verification details

eBay uses your phone number mainly for security. With 2 Step Verification on, each sign-in is confirmed by an eBay app push notification, a code sent by SMS, or a code from an authenticator app. To set up SMS, open Account settings → Sign in and security → Edit next to 2 Step Verification. Choose Use text next to Text messages on mobile, then follow the prompts to add your mobile number. SMS codes expire after 15 minutes, and eBay says landlines are not supported for texts.

Your phone number, name, address and email live under My eBay → Account → Personal information, and eBay asks you to update them when they change. Sellers should know one extra rule: the account name must match the name on the bank account used for payouts. That's an identity match a phone number can't provide. For the strongest setup, pair the number with a passkey or an authenticator app; eBay calls those more secure than SMS.

Common eBay problems and fixes

  • Invalid code error → you left or refreshed the sign-in page, which cancels the old code → keep the page open until the code arrives, then enter it.
  • The code expired → eBay codes are valid for 15 minutes → request a new one and enter it promptly.
  • The SMS never arrives → eBay notes that some users of encrypted SMS apps such as Signal miss its texts → check which app handles your SMS. Our guide “Verification code not received” covers the rest.
  • Codes still going to an old number → the number in Personal information wasn't updated → change it in My eBay while you can still sign in, then set up 2 Step Verification again.
05

When eBay skips the code: trusted devices and passkeys

If “Remember this device” appears while you sign in with 2 Step Verification, selecting it marks the browser as trusted, and eBay may not prompt for a code there next time. eBay allows up to 100 trusted devices per account and lists them in the Security Center. Changing your 2 Step Verification method or removing a device resets that, and you add the device again.

Passkeys are per marketplace. A passkey made on eBay.com doesn't carry over to eBay.co.uk; on another marketplace you set up a new passkey or sign in with a different method, such as a text-message code. Sellers active on several eBay sites therefore benefit from a 2 Step Verification number that stays the same everywhere.

06

Moving eBay codes from SMS to the app, or back

  • eBay doesn't offer a direct switch: you turn 2 Step Verification off, then set it up again with the method you want (SMS, eBay app push notification or authenticator app).
  • eBay emails you each time 2 Step Verification is switched on or off, so an unexpected email is worth checking in My eBay.
  • On the eBay app the push option sits under My eBay → Settings → Sign in and security → 2 Step Verification → Turn on beside Use the eBay app.
  • For authenticators, eBay names Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator and Authy; you scan a QR code and confirm a 6-digit code.
  • If a passkey fails, eBay shows an error and falls back to your username and password, which then leads to your 2 Step Verification code.

Keep it as long as you want

eBay may ask for your number again — on a new phone, after a reinstall or for account recovery. Keep your number renewed and it stays yours, so you can always receive the code.

Not what you needed? Our 7-day replacement guarantee — if the number doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram or Google, we replace it free or refund 100%; plus a no-questions-asked refund if you haven't used it for any call or SMS.

Questions

Does an SMSCreation number work with eBay?

In most cases, yes: our numbers are real mobile numbers, so eBay can send its code to them by SMS — and by call where eBay offers it. eBay's own sign-up rules still apply, so check the verification details on this page before you buy.

Which country should I choose for eBay?

Any country works. Pick the country where you want your contacts to see a local number, or where the service you're joining expects one.

Will the number work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram and Google?

Yes — guaranteed. It's a real mobile number with unlimited incoming SMS and calls, so verification codes arrive by SMS or voice call. If it doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram, Google or any app you need, we replace it free within 7 days — or refund 100%.

Can I keep using the same number for eBay?

Yes. The number is yours for as long as you keep it renewed, so you can receive codes again for new devices or account recovery.

What if I don't need the number after all?

You're covered by our 7-day replacement guarantee — if the number doesn't work with WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram or Google, we replace it free or refund 100%; plus a no-questions-asked refund if you haven't used it for any call or SMS — request a refund within 7 days of activation.

How much does it cost?

From $1.80 a month on the yearly plan (billed yearly at $21.60/year). Every plan includes unlimited incoming SMS and calls, 500 outgoing SMS and 1,000 minutes.

Can I use this number for eBay 2 Step Verification?

Yes. It's a real mobile number, so it can receive eBay's SMS codes. Enter each code within 15 minutes. Many sellers also add an authenticator app or passkey as a stronger method, and keep the number as a backup that belongs to the account rather than their personal SIM.

Does a phone number verify me as an eBay seller?

Not on its own. A phone number secures sign-in and contact, but payouts go to a bank account whose name must match your eBay account name. Identity and payout checks are separate from the phone number.

Will eBay ask for an SMS code every time I sign in?

Not necessarily. On a browser you've marked with “Remember this device”, eBay may skip the prompt. Up to 100 devices can be trusted, and changing your verification method means trusting them again.

I sell on eBay.com and eBay.co.uk. Does one passkey cover both?

No. eBay says signing in to another marketplace needs a new passkey or another method, such as a text-message code to your registered mobile number.
